SJ was introduced to music from a young age by his parents, who listened to a wide variety of artists, particularly R&B and soul. Growing up, he was always singing; from the legendary songs of Stevie Wonder through to songs from modern day artists such as Chris Brown and John Mayer. SJ’s sound is a combination of R&B, soul and pop. He has performed and recorded for a number of years and won ITV’s Romeo & Duet in 2022. In 2023, SJ collaborated with Endaf and their single ‘Crazy Love’ featured on the BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-List. In the same year, their next single ‘Good Day’ reached radio stations and playlists across the UK, including the Spotify ‘Fresh Finds’ playlist forthe best independent artists in the UK. SJ met Morgan in 2022. They enjoyed performing together, began to get bookings for weddings and other special occasions and decided to form the Mostly Jays.

Morgan was swaying in time to music and tapping out simple rhythms before he could walk. Noticing this, his parents took him along to children’s music classes and, later on, piano lessons. During his childhood and teenage years, Morgan steadily progressed through the ABRSM piano Grades 1 – 6. The grades were focused on classical music, but during the long hours of lockdown in 2020 Morgan turned his attention to other musical genres and to teaching himself to play the guitar. When he listened to soul, funk, jazz and rock, Morgan knew that was the music he wanted to perform. He went on to gain a Diploma in Higher Education in Music Performance and Recording from the University of West London in 2022 and a Grade 8 in Rock and Pop from the Trinity Exam Board in 2024. Morgan started performing in Cardiff based bands in 2022 and met SJ the same year. Their shared passion for music and live performance led to the formation of Mostly Jays.
